I was reading Women's Health mag and I came across "Smoke Alarm." It talks about second hand smoke and that "women who are exposed to frequent cig exhaust are 70 percent more likely to have abnormal Pap-smear results." This is because the smoke has chemicals that can inhibit your body to repair damage to cervical cells!
This scares me...pap-smears scared me...well they still kinda do. I grew up all my 18 years I was living with my parents inhaling this second hand smoke. I really felt it when I played sports, I always was out of breath so fast, everyone seemed to have more stamina than I did(minus the ones who need inhalers, but that's different). I feel like my parents didn't care, my lungs are now damaged because of them.
When I reached the age of knowing what a pap-smear was and that I would have to get one some day soon, I really didn't want to. I don't want anyone(except me or my boyfriend) going to look at my down stairs. If I had known about second hand smoke affecting the outcome of the results, I would have been freaking out! Not cool. Stay safe, and get your pap-smears, it's better if they can catch something early than late.

Very informative! I had no idea 2nd hand smoke could cause abnormal pap smears! This is another reason for parents not to smoke around their daughters (kids).
I had no clue. I grew up in a home where both my parents smoked which is ultimately what caused both of their deaths. When will people learn that smoking KILLS not just them but their loved ones also.
I had no idea either. Thanks for the info.

I hadn't read that before but makes total sense! My parents smoked too..and I'm so glad to be away from all of that...ugh! I hate when my kids go over there and all of their stuff smells like smoke. :P
Wow that is scary stuff. My mom quit smoking when I was like 12 or so. I'm sooooooo glad she did. I still remember my clothes smelling like smoke when I was little, even when she smoked outside. I never smoked, because of that. Thanks for this post! It's great.
